West Texas A&M Opens Season at No. 11 in AFCA Division II Coaches Poll

CANYON, Texas - West Texas A&M opens the 2009 season ranked 11th, nationally by the American Football Coaches Association Division II Coaches’ Poll, as released by the organization Monday.
WTAMU has now appeared in the AFCA Division II football poll for 49 consecutive weeks, dating to the fifth week of the 2005 season. They concluded the 2008 campaign ranked 10th, after climbing as high as fourth during Week Seven.
Four of WT’s opponents for 2009 are listed among the Top-25 listing, including top-ranked Grand Valley State, fifth-ranked Abilene Christian, 14th-ranked Central Washington and 16th ranked Central Oklahoma. The Buffs will face Grand Valley State, Central Oklahoma and Central Washington over the first three weeks of the season.
The 2009 season begins Saturday, Aug. 29 when the Buffs host Grand Valley State. Kickoff at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium is set for 6 p.m. CDT.
West Texas A&M Ranked 12th; Webb Selected as Preseason All-America

CANYON, Texas - West Texas A&M is ranked 12th, nationally and senior offensive tackle J’Marcus Webb has been recognized with first-team preseason all-America honors by D2Football.com, as announced by the outlet Monday.
Webb (Sr-1L, Mesquite, Texas) and fellow Lone Star Conference offensive lineman Tony Washington of Abilene Christian are the two LSC players earning first-team honors.
Four of the Buffaloes’ 2009 opponents are ranked in the preseason top-25 poll, as Grand Valley State (first), Abilene Christian (sixth), Central Washington (14th) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (24th) have also drawn preseason mention. Two additional members of Super Regional Four are also among the top-10, with Northwest Missouri State (second) and Pittsburg State (seventh) earning mention.
In addition to the all-America list, D2Football.com has also released a preseason all-Lone Star Conference team, with four Buffs being selected to the squad. Running back Keithon Flemming (Sr-2L, Mesquite, Texas) has been tabbed as all-LSC Offensive Player of the Year, as well as first-team running back. Joining Flemming as first-team offensive selections are quarterback Taylor Harris (Jr-2L, Whitesboro, Texas) and Webb, while defensive tackle Broderick Marshall (Sr-1L, Austin, Texas) has been tabbed as a first-team defensive line selection.
The Buffs, who concluded the 2008 campaign at 11-2 overall, 7-1 LSC, kick off the 2009 campaign on Saturday, Aug. 29 when they host Grand Valley State. Kickoff at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium is set for 6 p.m.
